Using Natural Essential Oils for Aromatherapy and Relaxation

Essential oils are concentrated compounds extracted and drawn out from plants via distillation. Essential oils contain the complex mixture of compounds that give each plant its characteristic fragrance and other aromatherapeutic benefits. Essential oils can be used in a number of ways starting simply as a pleasant fragrance; but most oils offer several other benefits including antimicrobial properties, stimulants for the mind and body, stress relief, or other therapeutic benefits. Essential oils can be used diluted in water, mixed with other carrier or base oils such a coconut, or with a diffuser.

Bergamot

A cooling and refreshing citrus oil useful for treating stress, muscle tightness and tension headaches. Bergamot oil has carminative and antispasmodic properties that make it useful for problems of the digestive system, and is a good antiseptic that can promote healing of cuts and irritated skin. Use for massage, stress relief, headaches.

Cajeput

A slightly medicinal smelling oil that carries a fruity camphor aroma with hyacinth and herbaceous undertones. Properties include antimicrobial, astringent, analgesic, stimulant, and anti-inflammatory, and as a natural bug repellent. Cajeput has great value in skin care and wound cleansing, stimulates the mind and assists with getting back into balance. Its antiseptic and expectorant properties make it excellent for respiratory tract infections such as colds, laryngitis, bronchitis and it may be helpful for asthma, as well as nasal and sinus congestion. Pain relieving properties make it useful in massage for neuralgia, headaches, muscle stiffness and general aches and pains. Cananga

A tropical floral scent that can calm the body and soothe the mind. Cananga has antiseptic, sedative and aphrodisiac properties, and is a natural alternative for treating pimples and other skin problems, depression and anxiety, high blood pressure and other nervous conditions. Use for stress relief, treat oily skin.

Citronella

A lemony rich citrus aroma that is soft enough to delight the senses, yet strong enough to be called nature's own non-toxic bug repellent!
